Ashland PA Daily News- Friday, August 16, 1940 John M. Kehler Dies Here After Lengthy IllnessJohn M. Kehler, 51, widely known Ashland resident and business man died at the home of his father-in-law, Gust Rietzen, at 5th and Centre St., this morning at three o'clock. Mr. Kehler had been ailing for the past year and became seriously ill about three weeks ago.Born in Locust Dale a son of the late Jackson and Mary Kehler, he resided there for some years later moving to Ashland where with his wife, the former Grace Rietzen he took up residence in the Rietzen homestead at Fifth St about one year ago.For many years Mr. Kehler along with his father conducted a meat market at Locust Dale. Following the death of the elder Mr. Kehler, some years ago, he continued in business there but due to his illness had not been actively engaged in the management of the store for the past three months.Mr. Kehler was a member of the Evangelical Church at Locust Dale.To survive he leaves his wife and two brothers, Frank Kehler of 10th and Chestnut st here and Dr. Edgar Kehler of Allentown.Private funeral services will be held from his late home on Monday afternoon at two o'clock. Rev. Percy Boughey, pastor of the local Methodist Church will have charge.Interment will be made in the Ftn. Springs Cemetery (Christ Church). Kull Brothers are the funeral directors in charge.
