Died, at Delavan, Wis., on Friday, Jan. 3d, 1896, John M. Campbell, eldest son of C.J. Campbell of Wiota, aged 14 years and 7 months. The Wisconsin Times, a journal printed by the pupils of the state school for the deaf, in speaking of his death, among other things, says:
John M. Campbell (Matt) entered school in the fall of 1890, and has been in attendance ever since. His first years in school were under Miss Eddy's instruction, and for the last three years has been in Miss Pearce's class. He has always been under oral instruction, and on account of his indomitable energy and unusual alertness, he had acquired a good use of speech and facility in reading the speech of others. Notwithstanding his peculiar infirmities, he always looked on the bright side of life; with his happy cheerful disposition, he encouraged others and often seemed the life of the class; and was one of the most promising printers in the Times office.
Matt was in his sixth term at school, and had he lived till May 6th, would have been fifteen years old. He lost hearing when less then two years of age, but retained some traces of hearing till last summer, when, after a serious illness, he seemed totally deaf.
