Col William Franklin Benchhoof Sr. in 1846 wed Mary Ann Crawford daughter of Thomas Crawford. The son of the late John Benchoff and Sarah Ann Miller. (Second) 14 September 1895, Elizabeth J. Arthur, of Baltimore, who died near Charmian 28 December 1908, aged seventy years.

He served as provost marshal during the Civil War, capturing deserters and recovering stolen government property. He took an active part in developing Blue Ridge Summit as a summer resort and in operating "Montana Springs," his own resort on the homestead.

(1.) Benjamin Franklin Benchoff, died after the Battle of Fredericksburg, served with the 126th Vol. Infantry.
(2.) Harriett Louisa Benchoff, married first James Oliver Cline, second J.W. McCleaf.
(3.) David Crawford Benchoff, married Maria Perry Moore.
(4.) Ellen Lucinda Benchoff, married Vincent Rouzer.
(5.) Margaret Catherine Benchoff married John Francis Foreman.
(6.) Mary Susan Benchoff married a Kohler.
(8.) John Benchoff.
(9.) Ann Elizabeth Benchoff unmarried.
(10.) Jennie I. Benchoff married George Reuben Watt.
(11.) William Franklin Benchoff II. He married Mary Elizabeth Fitz.
(12.) Thomas T. Benchoff married Cynthia Ella, her maiden name has not been established.
