Obituary of Virginia R. Allen

Bedford Virginia R. Allen, 79, of 6302 Sandpit Road, Bedford, died at 1:33 am on Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at her residence.

Born August 18, 1925 in Martin County, she was the daughter of Earl and Mary (Hopkins) Melvin. She married Walter Calvin Allen and he preceded her in death on October 14, 2004. She was retired from General Motors in Bedford and was a member of the Central Church of Christ. She was active in her sewing and organ club until the onset of her illness.

Survivors include two daughters, Celeste Blanton of Greencastle, IN and Anita Allen of Coral Springs, FL; six grandchildren, Dr. Demetrius Patton, Derek Patton, Crystal Blanton, Wyatt Allen, Jordan Allen and Aaron Allen; nine great grandchildren, Chaise, Elijah, Dominic, Jalin, Madeline, Molly, Orion, Elaine and Audrey; one brother, William Melvin of Greenwood; one sister, Martha Murillo of California. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Henry Hank Melvin; one sister, Mary Wade and one daughter, Elaine Allen. Funeral Information

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 11th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Wilbur Fields officiating. A graveside committal service will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Saturday at Springhill Cemetery in Shoals. Friends may call from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Friday, December 10th and from 10:00 am until the hour of service on Saturday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
