Jesus (Jesse) Velasquez Felix, son of Nestor B Felix (1883-1943) and Magdalena Velasquez (1892-1934) was born in Harshaw, a small mining town in Santa Cruz County, Arizona just north of the International border. He was a graduate of Nogales High School. He entered the U.S. Army in 1943 and after basic and advanced training he was shipped to England in February, 1944. In June, 1944 he participated in the landing at Normandy and fought in Europe until the end of the war in April, 1945.

On June 17, 1946 he married Yolanda Guirado, daughter of Hermenejildo (Jilo) Guirado (1895-1950) and Jósefina Castro (1905-1943) in Nogales, Arizona. Yolanda was from Nogales, Sonora. Jesse and Yolanda moved to Tucson, where their first daughter, Yolanda Felix-Fasindin was born in 1947. They next moved to Phoenix where their second daughter, Lois Susan Felix-Szabo was born in 1951. They lived a short time in Merced, Merced County, CA before moving to Alhambra, Los Angeles County in 1958.

Jesse worked as a hair dresser while living in Arizona and as a Highway Maintenance Worker for Caltrans when he moved to California. He died of a heart attack in Orange County, CA the day after his fiftieth birthday.
