Eugene was a proud member of the U.S. Army, serving in WWII as a Sergeant. During his time in the military he was a boot camp trainer and received his American Theatre Campaign Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon, Victory Ribbon, 4 Bronze Stars and 3 overseas bars.
