Marie was shot and killed by her brother-in-law, Robert Pierce Allgood, during an argument at her home. He was drinking at the time. She was killed instantly. She was married to George Russell Allgood on December 8 1930 in Atlanta, Georgia. She was the daughter of Frank Robert O'Shields and Junanita Weaver O'Shields.
According to records of the Department of Corrections in Atlanta: "Our records show that Robert Pierce Allgood was institutionalized under the I.D. number of A-25787, white male. He was convicted in Fulton County, sentenced 11-28-50. His offense was Involuntary manslaughter, receiving 3 years to serve. He was housed at Cherokee Prison. At the time of the crime he was 38 years of age. He received a maximum release date of 06-27-53, but received parole on 02-23-53."
