Their home was close to the historical site of Bloody Marsh, as well as to the Coast Guard Station on East Beach.
After Anne Louise Edwards graduated from Georgia Southern Teacher's College with a Bachelor's Degree, she ran a kindergarten on St. Simon's Island for several years.
Her first husband was Mr. Polkenhorne of St. Simon's Island, who worked in the construction industry.
Her second husband was Capt. Marion T. Yates, who served in the US Navy Medical Corps. They were married in 1957. They purchased and remodeled the old Incachee Plantation farmhouse, which was located next to her parents' home on St. Simon's Island.
She worked as a florist for her business in Brunswick called "The Garden Shop", for many years.
She was well known for her many kindnesses and charitable works within the community. She was a faithful member of Christ Church on St. Simon's Island.
