"PITTSFIELD-MERRELL LUTHER CONKLIN: Merrell Luther Conklin, 94 of Pittsfield passed away on March 3, 2011, at Chase Nursing Home where he had been a resident for a short time. He was born in Elmira, the son of Irving James Conklin and Mary Orda (Eaton) Conklin. He married Margaret Miller at the Congregational Church of Norwich on February 17, 1938, they had recently celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary. In his younger years he was employed by Walkers Bakery of New Berlin and later operated New Berlin Oil Co. for several years. In more recent years he was employed as a tool & die maker at Scintilla of Sidney and then at TACO of Sherburne, retiring several years ago. In his younger years he was active in the Boy Scouting program and the New Berlin Masonic Lodge. He was a very active member of the Chenango County Archeology Club and was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed teaching these outdoor skills to young people. Merrell is survived by his wife of 73 years, Margaret of Pittsfield, her children and their spouses, Phyllis and George Guller of Orange, TX, Richard and Linda Conklin of New Berlin, and Judy Bice of Pittsfield, a son-in-law, Daren Nachtigall of Wall SD. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins and great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Louis (Lukie) Miller of Pittsfield and Donald Miller of New Lisbon. He was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Louise Nachtigall, a brother, Kenneth Conklin, and 2 sisters Nettie Fish and Emma Neff. There will be no calling hours and a memorial service will be held at the Pittsfield Fire Station on Sunday, March 13, 2011 at 2:00pm with John Jones officiating. Burial will be in Hillington Cemetery in Morris at a later date ..."
