DEATH NOTICE: Brown County World - Friday - February 26, 1904
Emery Read, aged 71, died Sunday evening from heart failure at his home 2 1/2 miles southeast of Claytonville. He had not been feeling well and his son, Leander, with whom he lived, sent for a doctor. While the physician was preparing some medicine for Mr. Read, the old man fell out of his chair and was dead in a few minutes. Mr. Read leaves 3 sons: L.D. Read of Claytonville; J.E. Read of Hiawatha; and M.E. Read, Umatila, Ore. Mrs. Read died for years ago and was the first person buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery. The funeral was held Thursday, February 25, at 1 o'clock, at the Methodist Church in Hiawatha and interment made at Mt. Hope.
