Samuel N. Goshorn, 88, of Thompsontown, formerly of Mifflintown, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at Brookline Manor.

Born May 5, 1924 in Richvale, he was a son of the late Charlie E. and Cora P. (Steffey) Goshorn. His wife, Helen (Taylor) Goshorn, whom he married Dec. 24, 1947, died Feb. 13, 2001.

He is survived by three sons: Samuel N. Goshorn, Jr. and wife, Dianne, William E. Goshorn and wife, Sharon, and Glenn R. Goshorn, and wife, Debra, all of Mifflintown; four grandsons, three granddaughters, one great-granddaughter, and his companion, Doris Smith of Thompsontown.

He was the last of his generation, having been preceded in death by four brothers and nine sisters. He was also preceded in death by one grandson.

Sam was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, proudly serving in the South Pacific during WW II.

He retired in 1981 from Conrail where he had been an air brake machinist.

He was a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church, various Masonic organizations, and VFW Post 5863. He enjoyed square dancing, going on bus trips and to shows, and participating in activities at the 4 Seasons Senior Center.

His funeral will be held at 11 am on Monday, Nov. 19, 2012 at Pine Grove United Methodist Church with Pastor Ed D'Agostino officiating. Interment will be in New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal where full military honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council. There will be a viewing from 6 to 8 pm Sunday at Guss Funeral Home, Inc., 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, and on Monday at the church from 10 am until the time of the services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Pine Grove United Methodist Church, 4633 Cuba Mills Road, Mifflintown, PA 17059, to the 4 Seasons Senior Center, 27 CJEMS Lane, Mifflintown, PA 17059, or to the church of the donor's choice.
