Charlene Messick Allen, age 73, of Sarasota, FL. passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at the Herron East Long Term Care Facility in Sarasota, FL. following an extended illness.
Charlene was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County, but had lived in Sarasota, FL for the past 6 years. She was a member of the Belmont Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for several years. She worked as a night auditor for several hotels in Kingsport and Gatlinburg, and also worked at the Kingsport Press, Rogersville Review. She enjoyed helping with the Fall Festival in Mount Carmel for several years, and was instrumental in raising money for the brick columns and fence for the town of Mount Carmel. While living Sarasota, FL. she made several friends and enjoyed playing in the Wii bowling league where she won several awards.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Allen in 1977, Parents, Charlie and Hazel Bailey Messick.
Survivors include her sons; Charles Allen of Sarasota, FL. , Britt Allen and wife, Jan of Kingsport. Daughters; Tresa Mawk and husband, Robert of Mount Carmel, Joan Breece and husband, David of Falls Church, VA. Grandchildren, Michelle Patterson and husband,Russell, Britton Mawk, Amy Crowley and husband, Brandon, Jared Breece and Erin Breece. Great Grandchildren; Lauren Patterson and Nathan Patterson. Brother; Kenneth Messick and wife, Margaret of Maryland. Several beloved cousins and special friends.
Calling hours are from 5 to 7 pm Tuesday at the Johnson Funeral Home. Funeral service will be conducted 7 pm Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. James Adams officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted 11 am Wednesday at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Kingsport. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the Oak Hill Cemetery at 10:50 am.
Honorary pallbearers will be family and friends.
