Civil War Confederatre Brigadier General. Was one of the last commissioned Confederate General Officers, being confirmed on the final day on which the Confederate Senate met in 1865. He was born in Ireland and led a colorful career, from fighting in the Texas Revolution and the Mexican War, to fighting Indians, school teaching, mining, and serving on a Texas privateer in the Gulf of Mexico.
