J.W. Virden, who never, to the best of my knowledge (I am a cousin by marriage), used his given name John, was the son of Walter J. Virden (1895-1966) and Charlotte Lottie (Krantz) Virden (1897-1990). His sister was Virginia (Virden) Hufstader (1917-2007).
J.W. married Vera Marie "Jakie" Walker on June 15, 1948 at Mount Pleasant, Iowa. They had no children. Jakie, a New London, Iowa, native, is a daughter of George Percy Walker (1896-1985) and Verona Violet (Dotson) Walker (1906-2007).

J. W. Virden, 78, of Mount Pleasant, died Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at his home.
Born October 1, 1923, in Mount Pleasant, he was the son of Walter J. and Charlotte Krantz Virden. On June 15, 1948, he married Vera Walker in Mount Pleasant.
Mr. Virden worked for REA, Union Electric and was in construction and electrical work at the Iowa Ordnance Plant.
He was a 1942 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School. He enjoyed hunting, boating and feeding the birds.
Survivors include his wife; one sister, Virginia Hufstader of Arden, North Carolina; and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at Beatty Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Virden will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Beatty Funeral Home, with the Reverend Donna Hughes-Hargraves, associate pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.
