Mr. Abrams was born February 12, 1909 in Natchez, MS, the son of the late Samuel and Sarah Millstein Abrams.
He was a graduate of Natchez High School and attended the University of Alabama. While a resident of Natchez, Mr. Abrams served as past president of Natchez Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce. He owned and operated with his brothers Leon, George and Milton, the Sam Abrams Department Store and Coles Department Store. After moving to Southern Mississippi he earned a Gold Card from SCORE. He was past officer of the Diamondhead Community Association and the Property Owners Association. Mr. Abrams was a World War II veteran as a Gunnery officer.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Schulein Abrams of Diamondhead; his children, Lawrence Abrams Jr. and his wife Lynn Jacobs of Chappaqua, N.Y., Lynn Jeanette Abrams Berkeley and her husband Alan J. Berkeley of Chevy Chase, Md.; five grandchildren, Michael Ethan Berkeley, Stephen Sidney Berkeley, Jennifer Leigh Berkeley, Gavin Samuel Abrams, and Danielce Ashley Abrams; and a great-grandchild, Brian Jose Berkeley.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at Natchez City Cemetery, followed by burial under the direction of Laird Funeral Home. Memorial services will be at Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at 4 p.m. at Diamondhead Community Center in Diamondhead, MS.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to a charity of choice.
