Vernona Berg, 93, Milaca, died Saturday, August 11, 2012 at Milaca Elim Home.

Funeral services were Wednesday, August 15, at Milaca Evangelical Free Church with Rev. Tom Sahlstrom officiating.

Vernona Ruth (Wessman) Berg was born October 6, 1918 to Henry C. and Jessie M. Wessman on a farm near Dassel, MN. She moved with her family to Milaca in 1924, where she attended public school, graduating from Milaca High School in 1936. Vernona married Fred Berg May 31, 1941 at her parent's home.

The couple resided in Milaca most of their lives. She worked part time for her father in the Mille Lacs County Register of Deeds Office after high school. She continued working at the Register of Deeds Office and in the early 1950s became the full time deputy Register of Deeds. In 1972, she was elected as the Mille Lacs County Recorder, a position she held until November of 1982.

During retirement, the couple resided on Blackwater Lake near Longville, MN and in Milaca. Vernona was a former member of the Bock Evangelical Free Church, the Longville Bible Chapel, and most recently the Milaca Evangelical Free Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred in 2008; her parents and 5 sisters.
