Photo of Cottonwood Cemetery
July 2007. Main gate of Cottonwood Cemetery, Jackson, Calhoun, Iowa. Established in 1864 and originally called Lake Creek Cemetery, it was renamed Cottonwood Cemetery because of the living cottonwood tree fence that surrounded the cemetery. The Oxenford family sold the first acre for the cemetery and there were already 8 graves there-seven were Oxenford children under the age of four.
