Photo of Saint Jean the Baptist Cemetery
On August 19, 1955 hurricane Diane brought the worst floods in the state of Rhode Islands history. In Woonsocket, Horseshoe dam which held back the waters of Harris pond was breached and the back retaining wall of Precious Blood Cemetery collapsed. More than 50 graves were sent downstream. The remains were later recovered and buried in a mass grave at the rear of St. Jean the Baptist cemetery. The location remained unmarked until the above monument was erected in the spring of 2008
