Photo of Birch Hill Cemetery
Birch Hill Cemetery is up on a hill overlooking the city of Fairbanks and with a clear view to the Alaska Range (weather permitting). On the side of the hill, and visible from the city are these planters - each one in the shape of a star, and forming the Big Dipper constellation. This is also the star design on the Alaska Flag. From what I understand, Birch Hill Cemetery does not have a regular maintenance service. In early summer, volunteers are solicited to help clear the debris and clean up the grounds. Also, Birch Hill Cemetery is not open once the snow falls. The gates are locked until spring because there is no snow removal service.
