Photo of Riverside Cemetery
The caption on this New York State Historical Marker reads: "Riverside Cemetery, Est. 1792, Burial place of early settlers and Joshua & John Mersereau, Heros of the Revolutionary War." The Mersereaus were teenage brothers from Staten Island, NY, who served as spies and soldiers. They are also credited with scuttling the troop carriers of British General Howe and thus helped thwart the pursuit and capture of Washington during his 1776 retreat through New Jersey. This marker is located on Vestal Avenue, Endicott, NY. The Susquehanna River is just to the south of this cemetery.
