Photo of Palestine Cemetery
Palestine Cemetery is also known as Hutchinson Mountain Church of Christ Cemetery. Photo courtesy of Ruth McSpadden Bryant, 4 May 2008. According to Susan Mosier, the Palestine cemetery dates from around 1900. The first graves appear to be dated in 1902 and the name Mt. Oval is referred to in one early obituary. Mt. Oval is a name said to have been given by Mada Gould, and probably came with the Gould family as they moved south from Illinois. Then in the early 1930's the ladies of the Home Demonstration Club gathered together and renamed the cemetery Palestine. These early ladies began the clean-up and reclaimed the land which had become overgrown.
