Photo of Wallings-Chew Cemetery
This cemetery is sometimes known as the Chew-Powell Cemetery. The cemetery is divided into two main sections; the Powell section and the Marshall section which is enclosed by a metal railing. The cemetery had fallen into disrepair when Gertude Feucht and her husband, who live across the street, bought the property located at 500 Good Intent Rd. They had the house restored in 1973 and worked hard to clean up the cemetery. Many of the headstones were missing or broken. Mr. Feucht collected the pieces of headstone and put many of them back together. Some were returned from neighbors. Most of the very early headstones were made from cedar slabs which were painted with names and have disappeared over time. Other graves were marked with old field stones. The family knew who was buried where but that knlowledge has also been lost over time.
