Photo of Indian Cemetery
Indian Cemetery, Block Island, RI, is located 40 ft. east of Center Rd., near Fresh Pond. Burials number about 150, with legible inscriptions from 1809-1918. Most of graves--about 114--are marked by crude fieldstone markers with no visible inscriptions. The burial ground is near the site where Block Island's First Church once stood, and the home of Isaac Church, who, at the time of his death in the 1880's, was the last of the island's native Mannisses Indians.
