Photo of Fort Yellowstone Army Cemetery
Photo taken July 31, 2006. I photographed all of the graves that I could locate in this cemetery. Many of the markers are missing. This cemetery is located adjacent to the present-day (as of July 2006) concessionaire horse stables at Mammoth (seen in the background of the photo). It was the site of 57 or 58 burials from 1888 to 1957. They are U. S. Army soldiers and members of their families and civilian employees of the U. S. Army and members of their families. 20 of the graves were moved to the Little Bighorn Battlefield near Crow Agency, Montana on July 4-5, 1917.
