Ben Swanson (or Ben Z. Swanson, Jr.) is a life-long collector who has concentrated on vintage items related to his profession of dentistry for the past 39 years. He has amassed a collection of some 40,000 images. In addition to his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree he holds a masters degree (MPhil) in the history of dentistry from the prestigious Wellcome Institute for the History of Medicine in London. He is a past president of the American Academy of the History of Dentistry and was the founding executive director of the National Museum of Dentistry in Baltimore, Maryland.
Ben also had a career in the United States Air Force (USAF) as a dentist and retired as a full colonel in 1983.
