Demo got her name by demolishing every potted plant Pat had by the front steps in September 2001. We never found a trace of living (or dead) plant - only chewed or broken pots and containers.

Pat was furious, but what can I say; the dog loved me and had more personality than a potted plant. Pat eventually forgave Demo and her fondness for salad and began to bring doggie toys and treats home for her.

Demo (the mystery dog) showed up on our front steps over Labor Day weekend 2001. She had a blue collar and a choke chain on her neck (no ID tag or license). We figured she got lost from someone visiting the Crossroads Fair that weekend and checked with the newspaper and pound for lost dogs and found none like her reported missing.

She proved a good guest during the heart breaking events of September 11th. I'd watch as much unfolding news as I could stand and then sat on the deck and pet and talk to Demo. She proved to be good blood pressure medicine.

About 2 weeks after the attack on America, Demo disappeared without a trace - until Thursday, November 29, 2001; when she turned up on our front steps again.

Now in March 2004, Demo's still with us; she had 5 puppies in August 2003. Three are still with us and are chewing and digging up the back yard. Don't know if any plant or deck chair cushions will survive this stage of puppy development. But they are a joy.
