The Island of Ireland Peace Park, at Messines/Mesen, Flanders, Belgium. Designed by yours truly as Architect to, and one of the Trustees of, A Journey of Reconciliation Trust to commemmorate all those from the Island of Ireland, who "served, fought, and died in World War 1".
The cladding of the Tower is faced with stone that was salvaged from The Mullingar Workhouse, which was demolished in 1996-7.
The Park was officially opened on 11 November 1998 by President Mary McAleese, Uachtarain na hEireann, in the presence of Queen Elizabeth 2nd of Great Britain and King Albert of Belgium.
One of the best days of my life.
