The West Calaveras County towns of Burson, Wallace, Valley Springs, Campo Seco, Paloma, Milton, Camanche, and Jenny Lind have a long and colorful history that needs to be preserved, cherished and made available to its citizens as well as to the citizens of the rest of the county, the State of California and elsewhere. The Society for the Preservation of West Calaveras History (SPWCH, Inc.) was formed in 2006 as a nonprofit educational association to celebrate that history by acquiring items of historical interest, preserving and restoring such items, disseminating knowledge of the area's history to the general public and to function as a resource for students, historians, governmental agencies and others. One of our projects conducted by founder Sal Manna is to document the final resting places of any military veteran of America's 19th century wars who lived in Calaveras County. Find A Grave has been an invaluable resource for this effort.

In preparation for the Find A Grave meetup I called the staff to help me find which people on my list had memorials and which did not. They told me to use the cemetery locator which would give me that information. John is listed on their records as having no memorial but when I got there I had found several people who's records stated they did not have a headstone but who in fact did. I went into the cemetery office to complain about the bad record keeping but they seemed indifferent. I never got a chance to look for John's memorial so please check the photo request to make sure the request is still active beacuse I have found the cemetery records office is unreliable and John may indeed have a memorial.

Hi. I. Just got home from taking & uploading the 2 photos. The new app didn't allow me to make comments or contact you ( that I could see). So I have just now put comments attached to the 1st photo. He is in an unmarked grave in the .Civil War plot Q7. I hope this helps

Awesome! But what a monumental task, lol.

There are many many veterans in the Old Tacoma Cemetery.
