I'm currently working on photographing Union Cemetery, Calgary. In the interest of not missing anyone I've uploaded pictures not taken in the best lighting conditions. Where possible I have added the marker transcriptions for these poorer quality photos.

If you have taken a better photo of any of these please feel free to add it to the memorial. If you let me know which photos you have improved upon I'm more than happy to remove the poorer quality ones.

The following Union Cemetery sections in their entirety (minus a few very poor quality ones that I will attempt to get a better one of later).

Sections B,C,D,E,H,J,K,M1(not M)& S are complete.

Sections L,N & T I will continue to work on as time allows.

The majority of Section Y has also been completed.

Feel free to use any of my photos.

RE: Union Cemetery
I totally agree - it l to have a headstone photo - even if the light conditions aren't great.

123398864 When the headstone is large, I often add 3 photos - one to show the area, another of the headstone itself and then a close-up for genealogists. This is one of the locations I thought would be in shade a good portion of the day and took the opportunity when it was at least partially sunlight.

What do you think? Too many photos? I look forward to discussing this with you .....

I'll look for one of your memorials and send you my e-mail address so we can talk privately.

RE: Union Cemetery

I had to do that too PLUS my laptop saves all the original photos in a "hidden" file folder which was only discovered accidentally. I took my laptop in as it had no memory space and I had absolutely nothing on it. The tech could not believe it and ignored my initial comments about the number of photos I had taken/deleted as a possible source for the issue -until there were no other possibilities. He then located and emptied the folder (almost 80,000 images).

Have a look at this memorial 123139148 and let me know if you think my photo is a nice addition, or bad idea.

I came to the end of the portion of Section Y that you photographed. Where I thought my photo would complement yours I added a photo (if you had a close-up, and my photo was reasonably clear, I added a longer-shot photo) I hope that is okay.

I also keep a list of headstones to re-take, we seem to be very much alike. Which is really interesting, I think. You may want to check the memorials on your list in Section Y to see if I added a photo..... some of mine are clear and some are not.

I like your new bio - please add that most of Section Y has been photographed. (The headstones that are not shaded in the early afternoon have been photographed.)

Thank you again for everything you are doing - it is greatly appreciated.

CONGRATS and thank you - increasing the % photographed from 4 to 25% is a wonderful achievement!!

Keep up the good work - it is supposed to snow here tonight and probably will in Calgary too - Photographing headstones during the winter months is really tough.

Thank you again!!!

RE: Union Cemetery
You have been busy!!!

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!! I wandered a bit and took some random photos in sections where I thought the light conditions were favorable (and may not be as great at a different time of day)

I'll let you know if I am going back to Union so we can avoid duplication.

Union Cemetery

Thank you for all the lovely headstone photos and your efforts to preserve the memory of those that have gone before.

It appears that we both had the same idea and photographed the Field of Honor and Section Y at Union Cemetery. I hate duplicating someone else's efforts as there are so many headstones that have not been photographed but that is exactly what happened earlier this week.

It is unfortunate that there is no way for Find A Grave photographers to post the sections of large cemeteries that have been photographed. I thought since only 25% of the memorials had photographs it would be easy to choose sections that had not been photographed already. No so!

I find the quality and clarity of headstone photos is due largely to light conditions and I try to take photos on sunny days. I mark the headstones that are in shadow with a glass bead
so when I return to the area I can tell which ones I have not photographed. I didn't do this in Section Y as it will likely be next year before I can try again there. Hopefully, you were able to get good photos of the headstones I missed.

In instances where the light conditions were better when I took a photo I am adding my photo to the memorial, in addition to yours. I hope that is okay.

Thank you again, your time and efforts are greatly appreciated.
