Bio and Links
Bio Photo When I found that someone had taken the time to put my father's headstone, his photograph, and short little biography about him on this website, I cried, as he is buried 400 miles away. And then my mother, who is buried the next county over from him with her first husband was also similarly honored, and as far as I can tell by perfect strangers. That's when I decided I wanted to pay it forward. So, as a new photo volunteer, I'm excited to do my best to help others in the same way!

RE: George O. Shaw (Hubbard Cemetery)
No other Shaws in this cemetery according to a transcription done in 2000 and posted on the Hardin County iagenweb site at http://iagenweb.org/hardin/hcsitedata.htm. However, that transcription missed George--it appears they skipped several that were hard to read. I will check the next time I am there to be sure there are no names on the other sides of this obelisk. I have photographed all of this section of the cemetery and all of the nearby stones are other families. I'm about halfway through the entire cemetery, but the older sections are mostly complete.
You might want to look at the 1883 Biographical Directory that is indexed on the above web site. It lists several Shaws and a Matilda Shawe, with information on who to contact for a lookup.

Memorial transfers
Liz, glad you have decided to join in. If you ever need any help, just let me know. I am local - live off Queentown Road. Now, just give me a list of the memorials for your family or friends and I will transfer them to you. You can send to my email: jmcclure4747@charter.net.

Liz,

If you add a family link to a memorial, it will automatically link up to other family members. Therefore, you don't have to add it to each one. Otherwise, we would never get through connecting people. If you add Mother and Father links, then anyone with the same parents will instantly be connected to their siblings.

I haven't seen crepe paper flowers in ages. I've never seen or participated in a decoration day but I have heard of it. My mom used to own a flower shop before she retired and I worked there on holidays and then after I graduated from High school and college. Spring can be a nightmare with prom, graduations, Mother's Day, and decoration days. Come June everything dies until fall. You have a few busy days, but it's usually slow in the summer. I used to make flowers out of tissue paper is crepe paper done the dame way?

I'll add the others you have listed sometime this week. My allergies have done me in for the weekend and I'm too foggy to keep it straight right now. Too may things blooming at once have overwhelmed me. LOL

RE: Sue Smathers
Hi Liz,

I descend from Isaac. I have your messages about Almeadia and George so I can update them. All you have to do for corrections is just notify the person that created the memorial. f you have the find a grave memorial numbers it makes them easier to link. That way they don't have to look them up. I keep the find a grave numbers on the family tree list so I can locate them more easily. If you find someone who is missing from the family and they don't have a memorial page then you can create one and then notify the creator of that page to link it. Always do a search first to make sure there isn't a duplicate. I have searched several times and never found a page only for someone to find it months later and then have to delete the one I created. It happens, so don't worry about it.

I can't imagine losing 5 children. My grandmother lost 3 children and still managed to have 10. These Smathers love to have the kids, I've noticed most are quite large families. My mom is the 2nd of those 10 all still living. The youngest just turned 60 in April.

Do you know or have you met Rebecca Hawley? I met her a few years back thanks to find a grave and ancestry.com. Glenn H Smathers is her grandfather so I figure you might be close or closer since he would be your uncle. We talked for about a year, but I haven't heard from her in a long time. I'll try and get those memorials updated this week. Take care!

RE: Sue Smathers
Liz, no problem at all. I'm glad I could do it. I am related to you believe it or not Your father is my 3rd cousin 3x removed. According to Ancestry.com. My Grandparents are Smathers and grew up in Haywood County in Dutch Hollow.

I've actually been able to locate and meet relatives I never knew I had through Ancestry and find a grave. I'm glad you're volunteering to take pictures. The more we can add to find a grave the more loved ones people can find. It means the world to others and I'm just glad I can be a part of it. Good luck! If you want more details on the Smathers just let me know, I'll be happy to share.
