Bio and Links
Bio Photo While I may be new to as a contributor, I have been researching my family history since before was born. The picture for my profile is of my two older boys on an earlier trip to Farmington, MS for spring break 1994. That's right, my family got to go to a graveyard for spring break! Quite a road trip from west Texas.

In the days before and the internet, all of my research was at the library. It was just books and some census info on microfilm then. So, it was a real treat for me in 1994 as I was able to photograph my gggrandmother's grave, Louisa Ellen Bowie Taylor, my ggggrandfather's grave, William Taylor, as well as many other relatives. My gggrandfather, Rev John Henry Taylor (Louisa's husband), was the pastor of the Farmington Baptist Church which is located next to the cemetery. He migrated to Texas in 1893 and remarried in 1894.

Most of my kinfolk from both my mother and father's family lived in the NE Mississippi/SW Tennessee area before migrating to Dallas and NE Texas. Some of them came to Texas before Texas became a republic or a state. History is fun, particularly when you know someone who was a part of it!

I still work for a living, so my research time is limited. If I can help let me know.

Cousin Request
Hi John - I am a cousin of yours through the Tate side of the family (Lillie Givens was my great grandmother). I am assuming that you are a descendant of Mary Lou Tate and Kathryn Chaddick. I was hoping to find more information on the Tate's and Baker's.

John, thank you. My daughter-in-law has been out of town so I will talk to her later. I will try to reach Glenda. This picture is interesting. It must have been a special occasion. All the men are dressed in shirts, ties and dark slacks. They are all older men; your Uncle Knox the youngest but it is not a picture of him as a younger man. If we don't find a more direct connection I am sure my daughter-in-law would be happy to send it to you. I will contact you if that is the case.

Thank you for replying. My daughter-in-law was helping her 85 year old aunt sort through some of her belongings when they came across the picture I described. She asked me to try to locate someone in the Reid family since I pursue our families' genealogy. Three of the Reid brothers in the picture showed you as sponsors of their graves so I thought they might be a branch of your family. My daughter-in-law just wants to find and mail the picture to someone in the Reid family who might be interested. Her aunt does not remember why she has the picture or know the Reid family. I will have to continue my search. I am sorry to have bothered you.

I have an 8x10 framed picture of the Reid family made in 1969. It includes the seven brothers and one sister. On the back are the parents names and the full names and birthdates of the eight children. If you would like to have this picture please contact me at and I will give you further details. I am just trying to locate some member of this family so this very nice picture can be returned. It is in perfect condition.
