Response to Your Public Comment
Your email to which this is a response is rude, combative, and threatening. When I own the original of a photograph and it has never been published by me I am perfectly within my rights to copyright protect each and every photo. This copyright is also recognized by Find A Grave and Ancestry. Failure to recognize it may be cause to drop your use of the site. I cannot do anything about someone making a copy of my copyright photographs. However, if that photo shows up in a publication for sale or distribution I can and I will take action. Of that you can be assured. After all I would have no way of knowing if you use my copyright photo on your private tree. I don't tell you what you can do with your photographs. That is your choice so long as my photographs do not end up in publication. If I choose to publicly (without copyright) to publish my family's photos that Sir is up to me. My intent is to submit my tree and photographs to the National Archives. Until then only I have the right to distribute or publish (for money) my family photographs where I alone hold the original. I suggest Sir that you stop illegally taking and distributing photos that you do not own and that are copyright protected. If anyone pays you for a tree or research you publish with my copyright protected family photo I then have legal standing and I will take the appropriate legal action to obtain part of or all of your proceeds. Should I decide to publish or sell my family photos only I can legally do so. You should also know that any photo I assign to my family on Find A Grave is an original in my possession and appears no where else without my copyright. I wish you and everyone well but my photos are my photos. I recommend you check with Find A Grave and Ancestry (where my tree is private) regarding their rules on copyright protected photos. Photos intended to honor the memory of my family and are copyright protected and should never be bastardized by someone who refuses to honor copyright laws in their attempt to make money.
