RE: Elza Meece
Check Elza and John paul Meece's site. I went back, searched and found their vet stones. They were buried under about a foot of English ivy. If you hadn't told me I never would have been able to find it. There is no family stone here (so that picture is correct). I tried to clear as much of the English ivy off as possible for the picture but it didn't want to leave. Hope that solves the mystery for you.

I happened to see your name and was curious if you had a relative (John F. Brennan) who was a lawyer in Yonkers, NY (and possibly Hastings, NY) and who practiced law during the middle to the end of the 1800's?

RE: Elza Meece
Now I'm confused. I am looking at the internment sheet I just requested from the office. According to their records there are 4 people buried here including, Elza Erwin Meece, 59 yrs, 7/30/48 (vet).

The location map shows the site to be to the left of Pisacano (you can see the P in the picture) and in front of Fisher & Stern (both in picture) and behind Firestone (not in picture). The map shows a flat vet stone which I didn't see.

I can go back and check Rhododendron, sec 171, lot 129SW again but...

RE: Request for August Schalkham
Denise,
Well, the mystery has been mostly solved. It turns out that my newness to the process is partly to blame.
I had been told by the cemetery office that every "Lot" had a unique number. Augusts' Lot number was identified as 17 and in the Vet's area. Turns out there are several areas of this property designated for Vets. Using the maps I'd acquired over the last couple of months I quickly found "A" lot 17. That is the one with no markers where August should have been.
After two more reverifications by the cemetery office, I decided to walk through the other Vets gardens and....There they were in their own Lot 17.
yay
So, Denise, I have several images of the overview of their headstone, a current image of it, as well as close-up views of each half of the headstone. Do you want them posted?
I'm not going to be much help about your granddad. If you haven't already done this, check with the Dade County Clerk to see how you'd acquire a copy of his death certificate. If you can get that, there are often notations regarding where interment occurred.

Happy Hunting

RE: Request for August Schalkham
Denise,
Thank you for responding to me earlier message.
The identity of the person in question seems very clear by cemetery records, but it is not in agreement with what you messaged me. Here is exactly what the cemetery records have for this soul.
Schalkham, August G. Sr.
2/13/1920 - 10/2/1993. He passed in "Holmes"
Location:Old Veterans:Lot 17,Section C,Space 1

Authorized by: Betty F Schalkham.

This matches data you provided for your Uncle, who is apparently somewhere else with Betty. ?????

In the 20 years since his passing could he have been moved??

One of the Images I created for this space is really poor quality so I'll wait to post it until I can get back there for a second try - likely tomorrow the 29th.

Good Luck in sorting this out. If I can be of further assistance, you know how to contact me.

Request for August Schalkham
Denise,
I have the privilege of accepting your headstone request for August Schalkham.
There is a bit of a wrinkle. It seems that, according to the cemetery records, his is an unmarked grave. I have images of the area/spot where he is recorded to be located and will be honored to put those on his memorial but, in case you are direct family, I wanted you to know the status in case you want to do anything to have a headstone placed.

Happy Hunting
