I used this site not for genealogy, but for geocaching. This is my obsession. My goal is to place a geocache in every public Decatur County cemetery that does not currently have one. I want draw other people to these cemeteries before they are forgotten to time. I use Find A Grave to document some of the more historical graves with each cache.|
Edit: I've also made it my project to redo and correct the list of those Civil War soldiers from Decatur County that died in the war.

My 3rd great grandfather is supposedly buried at Lower Union Cemetery(Union Presby Cem.).
I noticed you took a photo there in 2014.
Would you be willing to look for his grave?
I noticed that almost 90% of the cemetery was recorded. He must be in the 10% that is not :)
He died on 31 Dec 1893.
Funeral Records said the funeral was at Lower Union Christian Church.
I have written Whitley Co. where he lives and they have no death record. I also contacted Decatur Co. and they said there is no death reccord. So he must have died elsewhere and was brought to Decatur Co., to be buried.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
My email is firstname.lastname@example.org

I saw your cemetery photos of the Overleese Cemetery just off of State Road in Rush County. I recently saw this cemetery from the road and wanted to enter it. Did you just park along-side State Road 3 and enter from the road or some other way? The cemetery looks like it's in really poor condition. Did you photograph the stones in the cemetery, as well?
There is a Mount "Olivet" Cemetery in Decatur County, but not a Mount "Olive". Also, no indication that Patrick was called Mount Olive. So, the Stephen Masters in Patrick Cemetery is obviously the Civil War vet & the marker app didn't have the correct cemetery name.
I updated the memorial with the info you provided.

Hi: I am interested in this stone. I have a relative jeremiah dugan that was a member of the Virginia militia that lived in Decatur Indiana but have his date of death as 1837. Do you have any idea if the cemetery has any biographical information. There are a lot of similarities here. Thanks Jennie

Thanks for the info. i added the military info to his bio. The date on the stone does differ from the date on the muster sheet, so I left the date on the stone as his death date.

I would be more than happy to change Joshua Self's grave location if you can prove to me that he isn't buried at South Park. Any records that you see that I have in error please correct me, especially the ones when soldiers died during the war. I am working on a book about every Indiana soldier that died in the Civil War, and would LOVE to have your imput on the soldiers of Decatur County, especially where they are buried.

Thanks, I added the military info to his bio.
