I recently visited Palestine Cemetery in Carlisle County where my grandparents are buried and was surprised at the number of stones that were broken or missing and came home with a mission to photograph all of the remaining stones and post them on www.findagrave.com. I helped my grandfather (Papa Petty) Leonard Petty, who was the caretaker of the cemetery; mow the grass in the cemetery. I helped by cutting and cleaning the grass from and around the stones.
Several years ago Bob and Carolyn Milner's started recording names and produced a cemetery book which I used as a guide to identify the graves. Several other people had already added information which really helped. Many trips were made to the cemetery to photograph the stones but there were still some that were unable to read because the stones need to be cleaned to produce quality pictures. Another problem found was the glare from the sun on stones when photographing. Anyone with family members buried at Palestine may contact me at email@example.com to update information.

And thank you for having them all typed in already ...makes it much easier for me. I try to send the edits when something doesn't match up. I've not finished transcribing all of the Ballard area, so be expecting more as I go along. And I said I wasn't going over there and take a bunch of pictures HA! I couldn't help myself! Beautiful tombstones & cemeteries in that area and not many of them photographed. So I took pictures till my phone went dead!

Thanks! I took photos of all the grave stones and did the research on all relative's buried there. That is our family cemetery on dad's side of the family. I hope you do not mind, I would like to in incorporate your family data in my tree, below Abby and Michael.
You have 2 FB accounts so I sent friend requests to both.

In Oscar Community Cemetery you have a J. H. Yancey born in 1879. His name is Joseph H. Yancey and was born in September 1879 in Halifax Co., VA. He died 12 August 1962 in Ballard County. His wife is Alpha Webb Yancey and she was born in 1879 and died in 1947. Joseph's Find A Grave number is 153043760. His parents are Robert S. Cass Yancey (Find A Grave 130553417) and his mother is Rosa B. Frazier Yancey (Find A Grave 130567902). Would you please link Joseph to his parents? Thank you for all of your hard work.

Thank you. If I discover anything new I will certainly let you know!
|Kate Eakman||James and Arminta Loudermilk #127998777 and #127998891|
Thank you for all of your hard work! I am curious about the death dates on these two memorial pages.There is a year for James and a specific date for Arminta but the biographies you included suggests only that James died after 1870 and Arminta after 1900. Can you clarify, please? Did James die in 1870 and Arminta died on 18 August 1898? If so, how and where did you find those dates? Any help that you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
