RE: Photo for John Wesley Mathis
Julianne,

At the library I found the following from the Thursday, Nov 11, 1937 issue of the Valdosta Daily Times, bottom of page 5:
"Rites Are Held For Mr. Mathis"
"Funeral services for J.W. Mathis, prominent citizen of the Hahira community, were held yesterday afternoon at Cherry Creek Cemetery.
Mr. Mathis was making his home with his son, J.L. Mathis, at the time of his death.
The Rev. C. A. Martin, pastor of the Hahira Baptist church had charge of the program and the Rev. A. C. Pyle and the Rev W. Jeffry Jones, of Gainesville, a grandson, assisted in the rites.
Mr. Mathis is survived by two sons, J. L. and W. [unreadable ink smear] Mathis, and by eighteen grandchildren and by 19 great-grandchildren, as well as a large family connection.
He had lived in this section for the greater part of his life and was highly esteemed."

Between the death certificate you have and the newspaper article, I believe this might be your person although there is no marker. Dates found for J. W. Mathis are 1935-09 Nov 1937.

Hope this helps your genealogy search.

Claudia

Ray Connection
You probably already have the photo of the house. I got it from Thomas Ray years ago. I will scan it tomorrow with his typed explanation. Myrtice Daniels was a dear friend of my mother. I have several of works of art in ceramics and in paintings. When I was a child Annie Ruth Ray used to stop by once a year or so and visit. In later years Thomas Ray would visit. Would love for you to do the same. My email is margothudson@bellsouth.net. Contact me direct and I will send you a copy of the photo.

Just wanted to let you know that two photos of this grave that is on your request list were already taken back in 2006 & 2010. You may already be aware of this...but I wasn't sure.

Yes! That seems to be correct and makes sense. I have added it to her bio. Thanks!

Laramore
Are the dates correct? It was filed a year before it was written?

I have already transferred four within guidelines. This one however falls outside of the mandatory transfer guidelines set fourth by Find A Grave, I prefer to maintain it at this time as well as adhere to guidelines suggested by the site administration.

I am always happy to make additions and/or corrections within the 30 day time frame allowed by the administration.

If you are unfamiliar with the transfer policy or the correction time frame, both are addressed in the FAQ's.
