Clem Ballard
Joleen, I noticed that military records list him as Clem L, while the 1940 census lists him as L Clem. He seems to be nowhere to be found for the 1930 census. I did see a 1930 census record in IL for a Lenard (Leonard misspelled?) Ballard at 10 yrs old. Do you think it's possible that he went by Clem, but that Clem was actually his middle name? Since you know he was born in IL and know the exact birth date, you should be able to get a birth certificate via mail from Illinois Vital Records website. That would give you his parents' names. Would be good to know what the L stood for. Another good source (free) for records is By the way, I do not remember ever meeting your gr grandfather, but I used to go to Cindy's house on Stowe Rd. Her mother invited me to dinner once, and what I remember most is her serving me black eyed peas - something I'd never had before! lol. Used to go with Cindy in the mud and cold to muck a the stable where she kept her horse. I knew she had older siblings already married w/children but never met any of them. Lynn

Clem Ballard
Hi Joleen, Going to try to find this for you in the next day or two. Just wondering, though, if he lived in Penn Hills? I went to school with a Cindy Ballard and am wondering if there is a connection. Lynn
