RE: Horner
Hi Maureen, So nice to hear from you. I was born and raised in Warren. We moved to Houston a few years ago for my husbands job. Where are you from? When I was a kid I always wished the hotel was still in the family. In the late 1980's there was a rathskeller in the hotel that was popular but I was never upstairs in the rooms. My mom had a tablecloth from when Charles owned it but I'm not sure if I even still have it. I hope I do but there are still boxes in my garage that haven't been opened since we moved from PA. My husband wants to go through them soon so we park the cars in there. You must be talking about Jack Horner from Erie,PA? We met a year or so before moving down here and he gave me a lot of info. I knew he moved to SC but have lost track of him. I hope he's ok. He's a very nice man. I have a pic of Charles and Lydia and family. It's probably about 1910 or so. My uncle Bud is in it, he was born in 1907 and he can't be more than 3 or 4yrs old. My dad was born in 1912 and it was before him. I also have a copy of a picture of Charles with his pet bear. He had two of them apparently. When the oilmen and loggers would come down the hills and go to the hotel they would wrestle the bears. At least that's the family lore. I also have a couple pictures of the hotel when Charles owned it. And a picture of the farm they lived in in Cameron Co PA. It was on Horner Road. That's about it. I do remember visiting my uncle as a child and seeing a tiffany style hanging ceiling lamp in the apartment that I would have liked but it didn't work out that way. Did you go to Oakland Cemetery when you were in Warren? It's such a beautiful cemetery. I used to go there just to walk around. My parents are also buried in the Horner plot there. The headstone says Howgard. If you would like copies of those pics I would be happy to share them. I will have to find my paper info and look for what else I have on the sisters. I do know who they married and a couple of their children. But not much else. Evelyn's other son, Hamilton, was my dad and he died when I was a child, long before I became interested in this and Evelyn died a few months before I was born. My brother remembers her though. I'll have to get him to tell me more. I'm so glad you responded. It's always fun to find new relatives. Jill
