RE: Squier memorials @ West Ave Cemetery
Ok. It's transferred. My name will stay on it as the creator, but you will manage it. You have the right to ask for transfers and the full expectation to receive them up to the 2nd great-grandparents.

I see you still have the duplicate for Jane. Get comfortable with management of Henry, then either delete your Jane or redefine it, and I'll transfer Jane also.

So who's going to win the Super Bowl?

RE: Squier memorials @ West Ave Cemetery
I'm not sure if because you are new to Find-A-Grave that you are aware of what I'm trying to do, but it will work out to your advantage if you take care of the duplicates, whether it's reuse them or delete them.

The way a transfer works is that the contributor receiving the transfer gets to manage it from that time going forward, and can do edits on the Memorial folder. There will be a line that says I created the memorial, but i will no longer own it, you will. The Photos folder will of course still be community access.

I hope that explanation helps. Just have faith it will work out to your advantage.

Squier memorials @ West Ave Cemetery
I've updated the memorials with the additional information you requested.

1.) Henry S. Squire
2.) Jane E. (Palmer) Squire

If you agree to the updates, then redefine your memorials, let me know, and I'll transfer.

-Charles

If you don't want to redefine them into West Ave, then you can do a cemetery tranfer by following the steps below:

1.) Click on the "Edit" tab.
2.) Click on "Burial Information".
3.) Select "Cemetery burial" and then "Continue".
4.) "Step 2: Find The Cemetery":

Type in the beginning letters of the cemetery, then select the country and state.

Click on "Search for the cemetery".

When you've located the right destination cemetery, click on "Save Changes".

RE: Squier's graves in West Avenue Cemetery, Canandaigua
Thanks for responding. West Avenue cemetery is nearby and I have a camera, and so could be of use to you down the road on other memorials, but first we should take care of the duplication business.

It's good policy to check to see if a memorial already exists before creating one. If one is found, you can have the contributor edit the memorial by sending them the information using the Edit/Suggest A Correction menu. It's also OK to ask the contributor to transfer the memorial to you using that link.

Under the circumstances I'd be willing to transfer the existing memorials, but first we need to clean up the matter of duplicates.

There are many ways to go about fixing the duplicates. My suggestion would be to send me the corrections you want done to my memorials via Edit/SAC so they contain the new information. Then you can check the edits and if OK unlink your memorials from family members. You can edit them to be someone else in the cemetery or anywhere on Find-A-Grave by doing a cemetery transfer, or alternately deleting them. Personally I believe in editing them to become a new person to save the memorial number over deleting them.

After making the changes and when I see your memorials disappear, I'll trnsfer the existing memorials.

Everything I've given you above is within the Find-A-Grave guidelines, and you would inherit memorials with all of your information plus photos and text inscriptions for you to manage. Keep in mind it's not legal to download the photos and re-enter on a new memorial.

RE: Elizabeth Heitzmann
Yes - she is your ancestor - she is buried with her son Frederick and his family - although they are buried under the spelling Heitzman. She must have been buried elsewhere and re-interred when the family bought the plot at Elmlawn Cemetery - as it was not organized until 1901. I also have a pdf of a Buffalo newspaper that has her death notice. Not an obituary, but part of a weekly listing of deaths from the Buffalo City Hall. I would be happy to send it to you if you would like. My e-mail is jwilliams@sjci.com. Just let me know and I will send it.
