Hi there - I saw your name when I looked up the memorial page of my 2nd great-grandmother Sarielda Guffey Truhitte. Since there aren't too many families who use this spelling, I assume we must be related somehow. I've done some family history research over the years, so let me know if you ever want to compare notes!

What a wonderful source of info your site is, I hope I am one of the family! I think my great grandmother may have been the Elizabeth F. Truitt born to William Trewitt and Mary Ann Clifton in 1874. William was the 1st born of Rev. James Madison Trewitt. I have been searching for her family for several years now. The state of Missouri tells me their birth records were destroyed so I am trying to piece together the puzzle. Your Elizabeth's birth location and year match up with mine. Our family had always been told Elizabeth was part Cherokee, born in Stone Co. Missouri. When I found your family they appeared to leave Tennessee very near the Trail of Tears and they ended up where all the Cherokees went in Arkansas. (With a detour through Missouri for several years.) I am wondering if there was any Cherokee that you are aware of in the Clifton or Trewhitt line.
FYI, my Elizabeth married Francis Chaffin in Crawford County Arkansas in 1900. She had been married before and married Francis under the name Elizabeth Wright. Francis also served in the Arkansas Calvary during the war. Thanks for any info.
