|Smiley Edward Bennett||RE: History|
Thank you for your email about Aunt Helen. She was a dear sweet lady and was very much loved.
My suggestion to you was to contact Ron Lasyone and I see that you have already done that.
I will talk to my Dad and find out how much he remembers about your Grandmother and her family and I will get back in touch with you.
If you have any more questions feel free to contact me through my email.
|Ronald D. Lasyone||RE: Family history.|
Thank you for writing to express your interest in our family's history.
Find-A-Grave is one of, if not my favorite genealogical website. I've been fortunate to meet and develop friendships with several of the contributors, often learning in the process that many of us researching the Lasyone name are cousins.
There are a number of really good, free internet genealogy websites. I might suggest that you check the Louisiana Secretary of State site (for death certificates over 50 years old), the social security death index and LDS.
Through the Secretary of State you will find, for instance, that Victor Lasyone (your great-great grandfather) and his brothers were CSA veterans and drew pensions. Most of our family were small farmers or worked in the timber industry. Some were town marshals, others were soldiers during World Wars I and II, Korea and Viet Nam. But mostly they were the "hard working" people who have lived for the past 200+ years in Louisiana.
My research has not focused on the Martin part of our family. My father was Wilbert M. Lasyone, married to Myrtle Evelyn Thornhill, so I've concentrated on the Lasyone and Thornhill families. I'm sure that you know that Wilbert and Helen were siblings, the children of Oscar and Lucy Lasyone.
If you wish to make contact please don't hesitate to do so. If I can be of some help I'll do what I reasonably can.
I appreciate how difficult it can be to make "cold calls/contacts" and admire the fact that you made that effort. Please understand that I do not use facebook (etc) and much prefer communicating via e-mail.
When you respond please contact me at the e-mail address below and include your e-mail address. In this way we can keep our communication private.
Give your father my regards. I look forward to hearing from you.
