Bio and Links
Bio Photo This all started for me over 10 years ago when I accidentally came across the Allshouse database on WebGED. I was curious about the stories I had heard as a kid from my parents Donald Dewitt and Helen Irene about my Grandfather, the Reverend John Clinton Veatch of Denbeau Heights out in Washington County, Pa. I didn't pursue this until about a year ago - when I obtained my Dad's WWII DD214 discharge papers from Washington County Courthouse. I have since had all of his medals replaced - things that disappear over time.

I have met so many folks here that have the kindness in their hearts to walk cemeteries and take some wonderful photos - and even share their knowledge of people from "our" past. These are little glimpses of what those peoples lives were like. I am thankful for all of those contributions.

If there's anything I can do to help another, just let me know.

Don, I was at Taylor Cemetery again today and not very far from the Veatch tombstone was one for Annicia and Dommik Vechik. I didn't know if this was a variation on the Veatch name. If so, let me know and I can send you the photos.

RE: Lavina Riggle Allshouse
One other comment. I discovered the correct parents by looking at her death certificate. I have attached a copy to her Find A Grave memorial. I also checked some of her siblings death certificates and the same parents are shown.

Hope all this helps so the correct link for Lavina is done. The correct links for Lavina are father 142807846 & mother 142807878.

RE: Lavina Riggle Allshouse

I hope I can clear up the confusion. I entered John Riggle 1808-1889 and his wife. I also attached him to his parents. If you connect Lavina to her parents John and Margaret as I have asked, then the changes will corret the confusion. There were two John Riggles. John, 1808-1889 and John 1783-1847. John (1783) was the father of John (1808). Once you have changed the parents for Lavina, then all will be correct.

Hope this helps.

Jeff Veatch tip
The record is there, but has their last name as "V*Ach" instead of Veatch or Veatch (or even Veech). And yes, we are using many of the same sources. I also have the three We Veitch's books and the CD set. :)

Another interesting place to search the Veatch name is here:

There is one book in the search that talks about WD Veatch and the Methodist Church that seems very interesting.

Donald, just a quick message about Ireland. The 1850 census (I think) shows that WD Veatch was from Virginia, but his wife Susannah was from Ireland. This might explain where the Irish tales come from. I'll leave a more detailed response later.

Josiah Veatch
Donald, you are welcome for the info. I am very curious to see if Josiah's parents can be found in the area. His mother was Sarah Jane Wesley Veatch and she died around 1872-1873 in Bridgeport/Brownsville. His father was Charles McClain Veatch who died in 1894. He may have remarried after Sarah Wesley's death, but I suspect he may have died in Brownsville as well.

Thanks for all the help with the great family information. I am one of Josiah's gg grandsons and have been very interested in learning more about his life and his parent's lives in Pennsylvania. I'm not in the area so I can't do any of the leg work myself.
