RE: William H Gum
I changed the date and also linked him to Sarah. If that's not right, let me know. Great tombstone pic! Really clear.

RE: William H Gum
You're going to have to give me a clue as to which William Gum you want me to change. And this is the date that you sent - 19 Jan vice 17 Jan. I'm not sure what that is. Sorry, but I have a jillion William Gums in my tree & I'm not sure which one you're talking about.

RE: John and Sophia Howard Wade
Do as you wish Mr. Jones. I explained it all in the bio. Did you even bother to read it? Though they are my grand parents far removed, if it matters so much to you, I will give you the Wades and then you can put whatever you want, but I will not be responsible for contradicting what is recorded in history. Are you going to turn in Mr. Ridley too for sending you on a goose chase finding Otho? I really doubt that "Find A Grave" will disagree with me unless you don't tell them the whole truth that I did add in the bio the change in the counties. Let me know if you want the site and I will delete mine and you can add your own, but please do add them as I don't want them forgotten. I didn't realize that you had been appointed to "clean up" "Find A Grave".~Mary~

RE: John and Sophia Howard Wade
I have added the information about the change from that portion of Bath County to Highland County in the Bio part of John & Sophia Wade. But, in order to avoid being in conflict with all the historical books & articles written that say they are buried in Bath County, I did not change the cemetery listing. To my way of thinking, this would create more confusion as they were originally buried in Bath County. As I think I told you before, I do not have the memorial for Otho Wade. You will have to take that up with Arthur Ridley. Apparently he has got his information from the same old histories I have researched. Since their graves are apparently unmarked, I feel it is better explained than changed. I hope you find this satisfactory. I am sure that if the old timers could come back, they would argue that they were not buried in Highland County. ~Mary~

RE: John and Sophia Howard Wade
I am sorry if you are unhappy with my contribution but there are too many history books out there that say this is where they are buried. Unmarked graves are only marked by word of mouth and I would not wish to forget them. If you or another researcher finds a marker or places a marker, let me know and I will be happy to change my info.

RE: John and Sophia Howard Wade
I think I know where the confusion comes from. I did a quick research and learned that Highland County was formed from Pendleton & Bath Counties in 1847. John died in 1815 & Sophia died in 1816. Otho died in 1825 so at the time they died they were buried in Bath County. Apparently the Wade Cemetery is now in Highland County but it was Bath County at the time they were buried. My historical references say Mill Gap, Bath County, Virginia, but one of them does say "now Highland County". I will note that in my "Find A Grave" but I do not have Otho's. If you cannot find them in the cemetery at Mill Gap then their graves must not be marked.

RE: Thanks
Appreciate your efforts to get her tombstone photo. It confirmed her date of death and burial location for me. Thanks for your help. She is way out on a limb in my family tree so any relationship to your wife would be very distant.

Thanks again.

RE: John and Sophia Howard Wade
I back tracked my research and here is what I found. I have never been to the cemetery but there are numerous historical books referenced on a site www.hillfamilymd.org that state John & Sophia Wade are buried in the Wade family cemetery at Mill Gap, Bath County, Virginia. One book had (Now Highland County). Evidently the part of Bath County where they are buried became Highland County later. Perhaps they are buried in the cemetery you found in Highland County but their graves are not marked? I found the above mentioned site by searching "Wade Family Cemetery in Bath County Virginia". Too many authors say that is where they are buried to be wrong it seems to me.

RE: John and Sophia Howard Wade
I am descended through Sarah (Wade) Zickefoose who is buried in Ritchie County WV. I have a Cemetery book for Ritchie Co but none for Bath County. Sarah's father is Otho Wade, a son of John & Sophia Wade. Otho is "Find A Grave" #70835205 contributed by Arthur Ridley. You might try asking Arthur Ridley if he knows where the cemetery is. I have learned that sometimes these family cemeteries are in back yards or even extinct or the graves are marked by a stone. Not sure where I got my info but John Wade died in 1815 and can be found on the Bath County 1810 census so is likely he is buried in the same cemetery as his son, Otho. Is the cemetery in Highland County the one at Mill Gap? Will try to re-find my original info source.
