Bio and Links
I'm here for genealogy purposes, mostly. Find A Grave has been a great resource for helping me find some of my ancestors, and to verify information I already have. I will be visiting cemeteries to take photos of my relatives who have no grave photo as of yet, and I'll add some relatives who have not yet been listed. Hopefully, any information I collect and add will be as helpful to someone out there, as others have been to me.

Just about all of the memorials I have created or maintain are direct ancestors of mine, so I'm not willing to transfer those, but I am willing to transfer the few who are not, to a person who is directly related.

I have added many of my direct relatives and ancestors to my virtual cemeteries. Have a look if you want.

John M. & Meta (nee Nattress) Gallagher
John M. Gallagher, son of Charles A. & Mary Frances Gallagher married Meta E. Nattress on 25 Nov. 1903 in Harrisburg, by Rev. William McNally, Pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church. They married in the home of John's sister, Mrs. S. Morrett and resided in Steelton, Dauphin Co, PA.
Two of their daughters, Loretta J. (1918-1991) and Marie Frances (1920-1999) married brothers.
Loretta married Clarence E. DeHart 'Pete'(1916-1968) and Marie married William C. DeHart 'Bump'(1914-1958). Marie later married Michael Drebot. The DeHart men are my first cousins, once removed.
By the 1930 US Census, John is a widower living with his sister-in-law, Mary E. Gallagher in Steelton. Loretta and Marie were raised in Sylvan Heights Orphanage in Harrisburg operated by the Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg.

I would be interested if you know of any birth/death dates or other information on John M. (b. abt 1886) & Meta E. (b. abt 1892) Gallagher. Also what became of their other daughters, Catharine M. (Kathryn)-born abt 1908 and Charlotte-born abt 1915.

Thanks,
PAMS

John K. Bitner
H Earl,

I transferred your ggg-grandfather to your care.

I research the men who served with the 208th. I would appreciate any additions of corrections you might make to his short bio as listed below.

Thanks and best wishes,

Joe

JOHN K. BITNER was born on January 1, 1833, to William and Catherine McConnell Bitner. The family was living in Greenwood Township, Perry County, Pennsylvania, in 1850 where John worked as a laborer. He married Catherine (Catie) Vandreau and fathered seven children. John was described as being 5' 11" tall, having brown hair and brown eyes, and worked as a miller at the time of his enrollment. He applied for a pension on July 12, 1879. John was living in Tuscarora Township, Perry County, in 1880 and worked as a farmer. He is found in the June 1890 Special Schedule for Newport, Perry County. John died on January 14, 1897, and is buried in the Newport Cemetery (Section C2, Lot 479, Grave 16), Oliver Township, Perry County. His widow applied for a pension on January 25, 1897.
