|Jeff Peebles||RE: james pirtle|
I am Sooo sorry it has taken me so long to answer your message. The headstone is located in the Gravel Ridge cemetery behind the Antioch Baptist Church right there on the Grounds.
James is my 3rd Great-Grandfather. One of his daughters Emily Jane Pirtle is my 2nd Great-Grandmother and was married to James A. Thornton.
James A. Thornton's wife was Vienna E. Morton, and His parents were James Pirtle, b: 1794 in South Carolina and d: 1861 in North Bay, Coos, Oregon.
James' Mother was Charity Roberts b: North Cambria South Carolina in 1796 and d: in Arkansas City, Arkansas in 1861.
I am afraid that is all of the information I have on the Pirtle Branch of the Family.
Again, I sincerely apologize for taking so long to answer your message.

According to Henry Pirtle's obit. in the Jonesboro Gazette, his father James left the family around 1861 and his whereabouts was unknown. Polly is living with her son, Henry, in the 1870 census.
