I was born in Tennessee, but grew up in the Hudson Valley,NY. As a railroad buff and geocacher I get around a lot and visit many graveyards. |
My favorite inscription so far, read on a stone in northern Dutchess county NY is:
"Death is but a debt
to nature due,
I've paid mine,
and so must you."
I have been working on a family tree, which brought me to Find a Grave. Retirement from a high school science teaching position provides the time to engage in such endeavors.
My direct family lineage includes last names such as Siebert, Heitzmann, Maneval, Heisler, Fehr, Leippe among others.
As I find stones I establish GPS coordinates and take high resolution photographs of each stone. I post photos on pages others have created and put the GPS coordinates and pictures on those I create. I link people whenever I can.
I see this site as a public service and any information, coordinates, or photographs are there for anyone to use.

Hi Bill, I transferred him to your care, it is evident that you are doing research and trying to link family! Great job, that's what we want! May you have a Happy New Year! Luella
Thank you for the photo and your time
Thank you for your time and for the photo
Thank-you Bill for locating my Aunt Anne Wright's grave, and taking a photo of it. I appreciate your help and dedication towards finding graves that are so far-away, and hard to locate. I'm researching my family history, and this helped me out very much.

I've been busy gathering census info for my family the past week, so it was an easy matter to look for Peter and Sarah Sechrist and see if perhaps George was listed in the 1910 census--and he was!
Peter Sechrist 46
Sarah Sechrist 43
William Sechrist 16
David Sechrist 14
Annie Sechrist 10
Nora Sechrist 6
Theodore Sechrist 2
George Sechrist 0
So he was born between Feb 15 and March 15--that is, assuming that the census taker and parents understood the question and did the calculations right. It is odd that his death certificate can't be found--but there have been several in my family that I haven't been able to find, usually very young children...I just assume that the parents decided not to bother, in their time of grief.
|Robert David Miller||Your last name|
Bill, you're the first person I have ever ask this of but do you have any connection to the Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania area? The reason I ask, is that my Grandfather, my Father and my brother all have the came middle name "Siebert". I have no clue why they were given this name other than the name was a family name of someone in my past. My Grandfather was born in this area about the 1870's, my Father was born in Mount Carmel in 1903 and my brother in 1941. Any ideas on how the Siebert name got into my family? Sincerely, Robert Miller
|Beautiful Savior Is My Lord Jesus Christ||Fort Plain Cemetery|
I did notice that there are grave stone photographs for Walter Heisler and family. It is a huge cemetery dating back to the early or middle 1800s.
Fort Plain cemetery is now listed as being 22 percent photographed which is deceiving because some individuals post photos of the deceased or of their obituaries and fail to change the type of photo on the memorial from grave to person, family or other.
I am hoping I can make it up to Montgomery county, N.Y. next summer and visit the cemeteries and take more photographs. It is difficult because I am disabled and live in CA.
Well take care and happy hunting.
|Beautiful Savior Is My Lord Jesus Christ||RE: Benjamin Garlock|
Thanks for the info. I removed Benjamin O Garlock's mother as his spouse and made her his mother. What a mix up. I've been trying to locate where my great-great grandparents Peter & Polly Hart are buried. So far no such luck, I am thinking they may be buried at Fort Plain cemetery since they lived in Minden their whole lives. I may have to contact the Montgomery Co. History & Archives & have them to search their cemetery records.

Previous message should say Fort Plain cemetery.
|Beautiful Savior Is My Lord Jesus Christ||Hello Bill,|
Thank you so much for all the tombstone photographs you have taken at Fort Place cemetery. Thank you for adding them to the memorials I have made and sending the updated information. I do appreciate all the time and effort you have put into this project.
The majority of the memorials I have made on Find A Grave of Fort Plain cemetery were taken from the Fort Plain cemetery book. There were no date of births and date of deaths were either the death date or burial date. Not only that, many names were misspelled and names left out. So any help you give me is appreciated.
