Bio Photo Retired from the U.S. Army after 21 years of service. I am a freelance writer specializing in health and fitness related articles. I currently live in the Dallas - Fort Worth area and am sometimes available to make photographs of memorials in my area. My wife is disabled and I am 68, so my "free" time is limited, but I will help out if I can.

Waldrips
I'm transferring James Waldrip's listing to you. I'm on the board at Historic Sylvester Cemetery and wanted to give you a maintenance update on that family plot.

In the last few years we have had the broken wall surrounding the plot re-mortared and a new cap put on. Over the years, the main headstone had sunken and the stone was heaved to one side. We jacked it up and poured a new concrete sub-base and leveled the stone. We also planted a line of perennial sedum along the south side of the plot and do raking & weeding at least twice per year.

Since you are the only descendant of the Waldrip family that has ever stepped forward to claim ownership, I would suggest that you and your family might want to donate $100 annually to the Cemetery Foundation that cares for your ancestors' graves. It would be a charity donation and is tax deductible...as you might know, Sylvester is a private cemetery which uses volunteers to help maintain the property. But we still have to pay for equipment maintenance, gasoline, tree trimming and to keep the stones & elaborate walls mortared out of very scarce funds available to us. We'd appreciate your help. Mailing address is on our website.

Thank you so much for writing to me about Nellie and Ida - please go back and leave flowers and at least a short note, stating your relationship to them. Then, when someone is searching for them, they will also find you - this is an excellent way to find living cousins. Thanks again for all your help. If you have pictures of them, please add them to their pages.
