|Dee Mack||RE: James Mettlen family|
I sure wish I could help you with A. Jackson Mettlen, but I do not think that I can. The little bit of information that I found on James Mettlen was primarily on the 1850, 1860, and 1870 census records. If I can recall, as it has been a few years since I was looking for information on him and his son Thomas, it seems like I found his marriages listed at Ancestry or FamilySearch.
I did come across a book about the Mettlen family written in the 1950's by Gertrude Metlen Wolfram online. I was able to download the book from a website called HeritageQuest. It was tedious to download because it would limit me to only a few pages at a time. That book did list a son named Jackson for James. I do not recall any other details about Jackson in the book though.
It sounds reasonable that A. Jackson could be Abner. I am willing to bet A Jackson is kin to James somehow. Being that they are all in the Illinois area the same time-frame.
If I ever come across anything further with our Mettlen kin from the Illinois area, I will contact you. In the meantime, all my best wishes in your research!
