RE: Photos of Mary Willis Mordecai Turk
Jen,
Oh, thank you so much for sending the pictures of Mary Willis Mordecai Turk and also adding them to her memorial page. She must have been a remarkable lady. I remember a picture hanging over the mantel the time we visited the house and I bet the oval framed one must have been it. I am so happy that you pursued this for yourself and also for me.
Thank you again for your persistence and sharing them with me.

RE: Photo of Mary Willis Mordicai Turk?
Hi Jen,
Briefly, this is how I am connected to the Mordecai family who lived in the Mordecai House in Raleigh:
My husband was descended from Moses Mordecai from Bonn, Germany, through his second son, Isaac D.
Moses and wife, Elizabeth "Esther" Whitlock, settled in Philadelphia and had 3 sons: Jacob, Isaac D. and Joseph. Jacob was the father of Judge Moses Mordecai, who lived in the Mordecai house in Raleigh and for whom the house gets its name.
Isaac D. married Esther Russell and they had 3 sons and they settled in the Lamar Co., AL area.
I wish you good luck in contacting the Raleigh Historical Society, who now owns the house. I wrote them once several years ago asking about a flower I remembered seeing near the side steps and the person who answered (can't remember his name} was very nice in replying.

RE: Photo of Mary Willis Mordicai Turk?
Jen,
I am sorry to tell you, but I don't have a photo of Mary Willis, nor do I know anyone who does. I have also searched the Internet.
Back in the 90's, I visited the Mordecai Mansion [very briefly, as it was after touring hours]. I also remember a picture hanging over the mantle [I think], but back then I hardly knew any "Mordecai history", so I am not sure who it was. Later, I read that she was married in the house.
I wish you luck in finding a photo of her. Please let me know if yor do. I would be very interested..
