RE: Robert Roland Wilson photo
I was a new enlisted man on my first cruise so I had only limited contact with the comanding officer. I did talk to him a time or two and he was always nice to me. I was a plane captian and he flew in my plane a few times.

I do know that I was in awe that he had been in WW2, Korea, and now was flying in Viet Nam. If I remember right, Comander Schaaf who replaced him as commaning officer was in all three too.

When he was killed flying down to meet your grandmother it was a real shock to every one in the squadron. We expected some to be lost in combat but while on R and R in Subic Bay just didn't seem right.

There is a web site with alot of information about the A-4s that your grandfather was flying called the A-4 Skyhawk Assocation. Mike Trout and some other of the officers are members. Mr. Trout took alot of pictures of the squadron including the ones of of your grandfather.

I hope this helps in your search for information about your grandfather, I know that he and many others are still alive in my memories of my time in the Navy.

I don't have the original. I copied the picture from my cruse book from the Bon Home Richard. I was in the squadron when he was the commanding officer. I think Mike Trout took the picture while on board.
